Spain’s Square is located in the middle of the village or as it is known `El Paseo’ . The square is considered one of the most important spots of the village where many people usually gather at the weekend with friends or family to have a snack in their pubs, restaurants, ice-cream shop apart from a playground area for children.
It is an oval square with many benches, lamp posts, fountains, vegetation…. All of that is surrounded with small fences and stairs which we can access from any site.
This square was created in 1865. At the beginning its name was Angel’s Square and at the end of XIX century it changed its name into Marques de Viana’s Square. In 1920, the local government in their majority from the Republican party changed again its name, so it came to be called Liberty’s Square but during Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship the square went back to be called Marques de Viana’s square. During 1929 and 1930 the square entered a refurbishment which introduced trees, benches, lamp posts, a music platform. During next decades with the implementation of II Republic, the square has been changing its name many different times.
The most outstanding period of the square dated back to the 60’s when a new remodelling took place in the music’s platform. From then on, the square lost part of the lively atmosphere it had always been characterized with. Nevertheless, the square has been improved lately thanks to the pubs and restaurants which attract lots of people who can enjoy at the weekend with great warm weather from April to September.
